Boric acid in the garden - benefits and uses

Pharmacy boric acid contains 17% boron - an essential for any plants microelement. We learn how to correctly apply the drug in the garden and flower garden, so as not to damage the plants and their own health.

The use of boric acid in the garden

In medicine, boric acid is used as an antiseptic. The substance is used in industry, photography and jewelry.
Gardeners have long learned to use boric acid at all stages of growing plants, starting from soaking seeds. Boron accelerates the metabolism in the plant, increases the production of chlorophyll, improves tissue respiration. After the introduction of boron on fruit and berry crops the number of ovaries increases, the fruits become more sweet and tasty.
Boron in the plant does not flow from old leaves to young, so it is required during the whole vegetation.
The lack of boron in the soil is noticeable in arid weather. Plants that lack an element stop growing up. The development of lateral shoots, on the contrary, is increasing. The young foliage turns yellow, yellow spots appear. The leaves are small, wrapped and flying around. Fruits are deformed. If there is a lack of boron, potassium fertilizers are worse absorbed.
Boric acid supplementation is useful on any soil even on chernozem. Especially they are important after liming of acidic soils.

Application of boric acid in the garden

Boric acid in the garden is used as a seed dressing agent and for fertilizing adult plants. For soaking seeds 2 gr. the products are diluted in 1 liter of water and allowed to stand for 24 hours. Seeds of pumpkin and cabbage soak for only 12 hours.
Different plants need boron in varying degrees:
  • they badly need cabbage, beets;
  • need medium - greens, most vegetables;
  • need a small degree - legumes, strawberries, potatoes.
Despite the fact that potatoes and garden strawberries can manage a modest amount of boron in the soil, the shortage of a trace element affects crop yields.
The potatoes die leaves, the peel of the tubers becomes rough, cracked, on the pulp appear deadened areas. If the potatoes are grown on acidic podzolic crooked soil, be sure to perform the root top dressing with boric acid - this will completely eliminate the scab.
Strawberries wilt when there is a lack of boron. First, the leaves become corrugated, wrinkled, flowers ugly, berries are deformed. If in time not to feed the plantation with boron, the strawberries will die.
